The “Word” Test
One of the most misused words in the human vocabulary is “Christian”. It’s a word that means to be Christ Like. Many call themselves Christians, (or what I like to say self proclaimed Christians) but do they really stack up to the title? Let’s give them the Word Test and see if a person can use the name Christian and back it up by the Bible, (or what I like to call Godly Christian).
The Word of God says in Matthew 7:17, “Even so every good tree (every person) bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.” A Godly Christian person will do everything within himself to do good to everyone, this is the sheep nature or that Godly Christian like nature. The Word Test goes on by saying in Matthew 7:20, “Where-fore by their fruits (or by what they show or project) ye shall know them.” Read on down and see in 7:21-23 that not everyone that calls themselves a Christian (self proclaimed) is really what they say that they are. So The “Word” Test goes on.
The Bible says in Matthew 5:44, “But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
Now look closely at the scriptures, it doesn’t say love your family or brothers and sisters in the Lord. It says love your enemies, and bless them that curse you, the next sentence is the most forgotten part of the verse, “…do good to them that hate you. Notice, “DO GOOD to them.” In today’s very religious world, our self proclaimed Christians have trouble even loving those who sit in the pew next to them. Sadly the self proclaimed Christians are those who will say how much they love you, or how much of a Godly man or woman you are, then in the next breath by their words try to destroy you. The words we speak will tell what we are. That is a frightening statement to our self proclaimed Christians. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth but that which is good to the use of edifying; that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” What do people hear out of your mouth???
Look at Ephesians 4:32, “and be ye kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” What if God was like some of us, and held unforgiveness? I have seen folks who are self proclaimed Christians not only hold unforgiveness, but sometimes speak evil things that the worst sinner wouldn’t speak.
Can you see how this Word Test applies to us all? Some folks actions speak so loud, you can’t hear a word that they are saying. Look at the Bible in 2 Corinthians 3:2, “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.” Friends we are being watched. What Do People See In You?
Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” What kind of works will be brought into judgement in your life, good or evil? Psalms 51:10 says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” It’s what’s within you that counts. Jesus didn’t just say love one another, He commanded for us to love one another. Look at what Jesus said in Johns gospel 15:12 “…This commandment… that ye love one another, as I have loved you.” Look at verse 14 “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you”. and once again in John 15:17 He commands again, “These things I command you that ye love one another”. The Word Test is very clear. Let us look again to the word in Romans 12:10 “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love. In honor preferring one another.” God first, others second, and your self last. How many of us can say that we do this???
A Godly Christian will not tear down, but they will try to build up, as in Romans 15:1 “We that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.” One of the biggest problems today is forgiveness, but Peter asked Jesus this question in Matthew 18:21-22, “Then came Peter to him and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times; but , until seventy times seven.” Ask yourself this question, do we forgive Jesus way? Many talk of love and forgiveness but their lives project one thing and then another. Notice what James 1: 8 says, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” That person who says one thing then does another, cannot be trusted. All we have to do to see if a person is right or not is to listen to what comes out of his or her mouth. The Word Test will expose and reveal. What are people saying? Watch the Word of God come to action in Matthew 12:34-37. “ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh . A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in
The day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” So our mouth can truly condemn us into the torment of hell. So by the Word of God, and this Word Test are we a self proclaimed Christian, or a Godly Christian? The word declares it in 1 John 4:8, “He that loveth not knoweth not God: For God is love”. Hebrews 13:1, “Let brotherly continue.” And I believe that this last scripture says it all. 1 John 4:20 “If a man say I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: For he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he not seen?
God help us all to pass the Word Test.
